Fail-safe IT solutions are vital for ensuring that Swiss Post customers receive their parcels or letters safely and on time. To this end, Swiss Post has one of the biggest IT departments in Switzerland. In order for Swiss Post to remain an attractive employer during the specialist staff shortage, the company is exploring new avenues. One of these is “workation” – remote working from a holiday destination. With this in mind, Swiss Post has carried out a six-month pilot project for IT staff.
Since February 2023, IT specialists from Portugal have been helping to continue the digitization of Swiss Post’s services. Swiss Post has already recruited 32 IT professionals at its new office location in the heart of Lisbon. As data analysts, cybersecurity specialists or software developers, they help to ensure that customers in Switzerland can continue to rely on Swiss Post in the future. Nuno Pedro, Head of the IT Campus in Lisbon, provides some insights.
Swiss Post’s e-voting system will be used for the first time in the federal elections in autumn 2023. Today, the Federal Council granted the cantons of Basel-Stadt, St. Gallen and Thurgau the relevant initial authorization. This comes after the system was put through its paces again in recent months: between 8 and 31 July 2023, 2,650 hackers attempted to identify vulnerabilities in the e-voting system in what is known as a public intrusion test. Despite around 55,000 attacks, no one succeeded in penetrating the e-voting system, or even the electronic ballot box. A further audit was also carried out on behalf of the Confederation, and Swiss Post has carried out ongoing developments to its system on this basis.
